Functional Medicine Hyperbaric Clinician (F.M.H.C.). F.M.H.C. represents the introductory 40 hour course of instruction in a Chiropractic DC / Functional Medicine (FM) provider’s education and focuses on use of recompression chambers in chiropractic hyperbaric settings. This course teaches the use of oxygen at a level higher than atmospheric pressure and concentrations as well as focusing on the management and safety concerns in a chiropractic setting. In order to certify members must be a DC or FM provider. The equipment required consists of a pressure chamber, which may be of rigid or flexible construction, and a means of delivering varying amounts of oxygen. This is a 40 hour course that focuses on the safety aspects for hyperbarics.

IBUM’s position with respect to this controversial certification is that education is paramount for the safety of the industry overall. We remain an industry leader and we are pleased to be the first of all certification agencies to educate Chiropractors / Functional Medicine Providers in the safer use of hyperbarics to help individuals heal. This certification is not to interfere with or usurp state or federal laws with regard to hyperbaric treatment or prescribing oxygen. Its purpose is education.
